Learning The Do's And Don'ts of Creating Email Marketing Campaigns

Whether you have just started your business online, or have been working at it for a number of years, you will soon realize the importance of email marketing for your business. Many people have not wanted to get involved in email marketing because they think it is spam, or do not like to "hard sell" on a consistent basis. There are some do's and don'ts to properly achieving a solid email marketing campaign. In this article we hope to cover some of the aspects of email marketing so you can get rolling on your own campaign efforts.

Once you have decided to start using email marketing to promote your business, you first need to build a list. This can often start out slowly depending on the methods you use. There are companies out there that will sell you email addresses but this method is not recommended for more than one reason. These are often not targeted. Then you will have to send out a request email to these people to see if they are interested in your business/offer/products and have them opt in to your own list. This is a pain for most people and a lot of them will just ignore the message, thus wasting your time, energy and money. Most reputable autoresponder services such as Aweber do not allow you to import names from these lists, so you would have to send emails individually and direct the interested parties to sign up on your aweber optin form.

Another reason these leads may not get your message, is due to the spam filters set up with a lot of the internet service providers. Aweber and other autoresponder services have systems in place to be accepted by these spam filters, thus assuring you all emails will get through.

There are many ways you can get going with your email marketing campaign. Once you have created an optin form from your autoresponder service, you need to create a Splash page or place the optin form on your website home page where all visitors will see it. If you offer something free of interest that will benefit your target audience such as an ecourse, ebook, or lesson, you will see more sign ups. With increased marketing such as writing articles, posting on blogs and forums, joining yahoo and Google groups and other means of social advertising, you will find that your business web address and offer start getting seen. You do not have to hard sell. A simple direct signature stating your web address and your free offer upon sign up should do if others were interested in what you had to say in your article or post.

When you have a list of email subscribers, be sure to send useful information, more freebies, links to helpful sites and services all mixed in with your promotions for your products and services. The key is to keep these subscribers from opting out. If you email them 4 times a week and always try to sell them something they will soon be either unsubscribing, or deleting all emails from you.

Email marketing is a great way to bring in monthly residual income and is often the life blood of most online businesses. Do not give up regardless of how long it seems to be taking you to build your list. It is better to have a smaller list of buyers who stay subscribed than a huge list who don't do much.
