Andrew Lloyd-Webber- Is He An Outright Plagiarist?
or an inright (if there is such a word) plagiarist? Okay, the dead can`t sue. BUt does it put together it right? And I`m alive, physically at least; although as a woman and as a Jew I seem to be materially invisible. Just pilfer what`s mine! First I wrote about Buenos Aires in `Harpers Bazaar` and LW followed beside `Evita`. Then I wrote a biography of Hollywood aka Marilyn Monroe and he followed with `Sunset Boulevard`. (At the time he was my neighbour on W. Eaton Place) Now I run cockney bazaar walks and he`s doing `Oliver`- BUT DOING IT WITH AN UNPLEASANTLY DERIVATIVE FOCUS ON THE COCKNEY MARKETS ANGLE. Anyone who has taken one of the walk knows that I q uote from Dickens` `Oliver Twist` when doing Smithfield and also quote from Dickens in the context of the DVD which I`ve a short time ago completed `London`s Ancient Markets: Their Fight for Survival`. LW, if you come anywhere near the walks, I`ll sue your pant off!

2012 London Olympic Games: The Glimmer of Hope For UK Jobs

The 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games is three years away and yet projects are ahead of schedule.

Lord Coe, chairman of the London Organising Committee told BBC News that they have met all 10 milestones the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) had set for this stage of the preparations.

"We are a little bit further ahead of bang on target. Not only is this project on track but it will actually deliver some extraordinary prizes," Coe added.

Recently Lord Coe wrote about these developments in The Telegraph.
"When I delivered our bid to the International Olympic Committee in Singapore four years ago, a central part of our commitment was to seize the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of regenerating neglected east London, and to provide jobs, opportunities and hope for generations to come. And we're doing that," he wrote.

UK jobs in the capital are benefiting from the developments and will continue to do so according to him.

"Our delivery partner, the Olympic Delivery Authority, has sought work worth more than £3.5 billion from 935 companies, while we expect 75,000 business opportunities to have become available by 2012," he added.
Although the recession could be seen as the worst time ever for any country to host an expensive event like the Olympic Games, there are many who believe that it could be the solution to surviving it.

BBC News reports on a statement made by IOC president Jacques Rogge who justified his confidence in the country to host the event during such a turbulent point in time.

"The Games have survived difficult times before. They have survived and thrived because of what they mean to people all over the world," he said.
"The Games remind us that the transient difficulties of life can be overcome through hard work and determination."

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson recently wrote in the London Evening Standard that the Games create a sense of hope and euphoria.
"We are going to put on the greatest show on earth, and to use the investment to transform parts of London that have been neglected for decades. I am determined to use these Olympics to help generate jobs, and to improve the whole city," he wrote.

Current Olympic jobs and future opportunities for employment leading up to the event often mistakenly fall only under the construction label, seeing as this is the most obvious.
However, construction jobs aren't the only jobs that will stem from the Games.

London Evening Standard reports that the budget hotels group, Travelodge has invested £84m on six different properties in London as well as creating 200 new jobs in catering and hospitality.

"We have long stated our aim of being the lead brand in London by the time of the Games. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the tourism industry and we intend to take it with both hands," Grant Hearn, Travelodge's chief executive told the publication.

Catering and Hospitality could see more opportunities opening up as companies enlarge before 2012.

Like Sarah (24) a waitress from Devon who has recently relocated to London to try for a better job.

"Luckily I wasn't looking for too long. I am now employed at a company that expanded with a new restaurant in East London in order to benefit most from the Games," she said.
Although the Olympics is still far away, Sarah thinks she wouldn't have found a job easily or even at all, if it wasn't for the prospect of the Games.

The capital is buzzing with excitement as restaurants, hotels and tourist attractions improve and gear-up to accommodate all the tourists that will be flooding the city.

Government officials and organizers of the event daily express their excitement towards the current developments as well as the future of the UK.

But what do you think?

Peter (44) a restaurant manager in Kent thinks that London and London only will reap the profits from the event.

"I think the majority of the tourists will eat and stay in East London or as close to it as possible," he said.

Karen (29) from Manchester is still optimistic about what the Olympics can do for the city she lives in.

"The Olympics will be good for the economy but I hope smaller businesses will benefit as much as large companies and that other cities in the UK such as Manchester will also enjoy regeneration as a result of the Games," she said.

"So far though preparation for the Olympics has not done much in my opinion to help the thousands of people who lost their jobs as a result of the recession," Karen added.

Gary (28) from Reading is irritated by all the sceptical comments people have been making.

"I think it will give the economy an enormous boost. Yes, money is being spent but the UK is the first country to host a go-green Olympics making it something different and interesting," he said.

According to a Redhill and Reigate Life article, the ODA estimates that 75,000 contracts worth around £6bn will be won nationally leading up to the Games as well as during, and that the South East for example will benefit economically with £1bn.

Surrey County Council has pledged to assist busine sses with as much help as possible to make sure that the county's businesses claim their share.

"Now is the time to give our businesses the help and advice they need to clinch work on offer in the run-up to, and during, the Olympics," Denise Saliagopoulos, county council cabinet member told the publication.

"Surrey is well placed to benefit from the Olympic effect because the county is between two major airports and has key road and rail links into London, and we intend to ensure businesses in the county get the maximum benefit," she added.

Let's fast forward our thoughts to the year 2013...

The Olympic Games are done, tourists have come and gone and let's say the ODA was right and the UK economy has done as well as they anticipated.
Now what? Surely the new stadiums that were built won't be barred up to only use the next time London is honoured by hosting the Olympic Games again?

"After the Games, that m omentum will carry forward as we will have addressed key issues such as the lack of swimming and cycling facilities in the capital and will have left legacy and infrastructure for future generations to enjoy," Lord Coe wrote in his article in The Telegraph.
According to the UK Press Association the Olympic Park could now host events like Twenty20 cricket, London Fashion Week and farmers' markets.
Everyone has an opinion about the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympic Games, some bad, some indifferent and some great.

However, the fact remains that if the UK didn't have this event to create extra jobs and added business, there would have been thousands more left jobless, and millions left with not even a glimmer of hope for things to get better.

Corporate Responsibility: The Answer to the UK Job Crisis

As the G8 summit in Italy draws to an end it is apparent that the top issues discussed, remains to be the three biggest issues around the world: the current economy, global warming and world hunger.

Their final draft statement seen by Reuters, addresses these different issues and their solution to it.

"We are committed to increase investments in short, medium and long-term agriculture development that directly benefits the poorest and makes best use of international institutions," the statement said.

While the richest countries in the world debate these issues, big corporate companies around the world have been trying for years to improve them in some way or the other.

Corporate Responsibility (CR), formerly known as Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has been placing big multinational companies under extraordinary stress to honour and support the triple bottom line of people, planet and profit.

According to the UK Government's Corporate Responsibility Report, CR makes business sense.

"Good business leaders recognise that Corporate Responsibility makes good business sense - it attracts the best talent, earns the trust of customers and the community and acts as a powerful investment for long-term sustainability," said Ian Pearson, Minister of State Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform.

While countries around the world battle with one or all three issues as well as new concerns manifested from them, one of the biggest problems the UK is currently facing is the growing unemployment rate.

According the Office of National Statistics, the UK had a staggering two million people out of a jobs at the end of 2008 and in the last three months the unemployment rate rose from 6.5 pc to 7.1pc.
Corporate Responsibility takes on a new and more intense role when it demands job creation and skill training during the current econ omic climate.

Tesco's plans to expand a store in Barton-Upon-Humber leading to the creation of 50 new jobs in the area, is an example of the kind of CR the UK job market needs.

Residents of Barton-Upon-Humber has responded positively towards their plans and corporate affairs manager, Nick Gellatly said that although recruiting will only start in next year, people from the area have already enquired about it.
"Nearer to the time, we will talk to the Job Centre Plus and set up a Local Employment Partnership to make sure that local people have the best possible chance of getting a job and people who have been unemployed have the best chance of getting a job," he said.

Another example of this is with Sainsbury's new store in north Essex where 23 new jobs were created.

The store in Halstead's High Street was previously a Somerfield store and through the Sainsbury buy-over 70 jobs were safeguarded as well.

"We're proud of our new store but the best part is meeting the local community. Everyone's so friendly and we're looking forward to making a positive difference," commented Andy Deacon, Store manager.

Companies show their participation through endeavours like these, with on-going charity support or with projects like Vodafone's Lifetracks programme.

The Lifetracks programme focuses on the youth of the UK, empowe ring 16-25-year-olds with the knowledge to make informed choices about work, study and training.

The programme involves engagement teams, workshops, help lines, a website and volunteers.

Vodafone's aim with this programme is to assist 720,000 UK youngsters over a three year period and help 70pc of them into employment, education or training.

Vodafone has also created 3600 jobs in Berkshire at their Newbury HQ and spent £12m on products and services from West Berkshire's local suppliers.
While the economic climate is currently a daily issue it does not mean that the environmental climate should take the back-seat until the economy settles down.

Natural disasters like floods and earth quakes are a direct result of global warming and will only increase economic turmoil if not pro-actively dealt with.

"This week the G8 nations came to an historic consensus towards concrete goals to reduce carbon emissio ns," said US president, Barack Obama.

"Developed nations will reduce their emissions by 80 percent and we will work with all nations to cut global emissions in half. This ambitious efforts is consistent with limiting global warming to no more than two degrees Celsius. Developed countries, like my own, have a historic responsibility to take the lead," he said.

The good news is that while our big corporate institutions need to focus their CR on job creation, this is not the only focus for some.

Coca-Cola who employ 4500 people in England, Scotland and Wales do their bit for the environment through ensuring that all of their UK manufacturing sites adhere to the highest environmental standards, by being ISO14001 certified.

The largest listed water company in the UK, United Utilities, who maintain water, wastewater, electricity and gas, are trying to improve the environment through their numerous projects.

They are currently involved with a project that turns biogas from sewage treatment into fuel for vehicles.

Another of their projects saved £6.7m through producing methane gas from sewage sludge in order to provide heat and electricity to run sewage systems.

Big corporate companies earn billions each year and to some extend certain global issues, like for example global warming, is as a result of pollution from billions of factories around the world.

That is why big companies owe it to the world to put money back into improving the economy, environment and social issues.

Hopefully the UK will see more CR projects, charity support and most importantly job creation within the next several months as companies start to see the importance of Corporate Responsibility in combating unemployment.

With the prospect of companies in the UK doing their part, citizens around the country can also assist with embarking on their ow n responsibility projects.

Through making accountable environment-friendly choices, by supporting charities and if at all possible creating a job opportunity for someone who desperately needs one, we can all put an effort into improving an aspect of everyday life.

Understanding Internet marketing UK

Internet Marketing Company UK is one of the most sought after fields. It is highly profitable if done right and it can be done part-time as well as full-time. It does not require heavy investment. In fact it is possible to start with very little investment with affiliate marketing. One has to simply choose to market a product and then pay for being an affiliate. Once a website or a blog is established, which are also sometimes taken care of, a marketer is ready to make money.

Choosing Internet marketing UK as a profession

In order to start making good money and establish a reputation, it takes time. Hence do not start full-time if you keep another job. Start part-time and build your lists. Then as you establish yourself and as the income from marketing offsets your daily job, you are ready to quit your job. Internet marketing is very competitive and several new marketers give up because they do not plan it properly.

Importance of lists and Link Building Services

Lists are every thing to an Internet marketer and Internet marketing UK. An opt-in list is a list of all those people who have opted for some services the marketer provides. They need not be his clients, but they are those people who have signed up for something's like newsletters, or trial software. These people are potential clients and they are repeatedly marketed to, by the marketer. The bigger the list, the greater is the scope for marketing. Hence every marketer is constantly trying to build bigger lists.

Getting it right

Since the medium is the Internet, an Internet marketer has to have an impressive presence on the Internet. The website has to be optimised for search engines, it should have an appealing yet a relevant design and it should have updated content. PPC Services UK can also be used. A marketer should leave the work to an Internet Marketing Services UK expert with the details of implementation and by doing so, he saves a lot of time which can be used for planning his next venture.

Hair Salon Marketing Tips, Tricks and Secrets as Used By the World's Most Successful Salons

As a salon owner, you appreciate that our country is going through a really tough time economically. People are being forced to trim their spending wherever possible, and many are choosing to cut down on luxuries' like pampering and looking after their hair.

Every day salons across the country are closing, blaming lack of new customers, decreased customer-spend and fewer repeat visits for their financial difficulties.

Have you experienced a decline in business as the recession has taken hold?

Are you worried about losing your best stylists to your busier rivals and the downward spiral that this inevitably causes?

Maybe you have already lost good stylists and want to stop the bleeding before it gets worse?

I'm going to share with you 4 simple but unbelievably effective strategies that you can implement in your salon RIGHT NOW to increase business, client retention, morale and ultimately, profit.

These strategies have been used by the world's most successful salons salons who have turned their business round once their owners made a few small changes. It's not uncommon for salons to boost their income dramatically once the owner makes the decision to no longer settle for mediocre results, take some action and invest some time and energy into marketing.

As a salon owner, your passion is understandably in the salon. Most salon owners I talk to got into the business because of a love of style, hair and giving their clients a great look and a new self-confidence, while giving you a chance to express your creativity. The reality is that the day-to-day stresses and strains of running a business can often take you away from the reason you started it in the first place.

Many salon owners even experience a breaking point, where they finally decide that they've had enough of the stresses and strains and they are going to put in place some strategies that take care of the business side of things in order to let them get on with what they enjoy, and what they're best at, which is running a Salon.

With that in mind, these simple strategies are honed to give your salon maximum results with minimum effort. We're not talking hiring a marketing person to implement complex strategies, we're not talking becoming an expert in graphic and web design. No one running a real business has time for that stuff. What this report is about is simple, small changes that produce big results.

Without any further ado, let's get stuck in.

The secret to any successful business, particularly businesses like salons, that depend so heavily on regular clients, is to increase the value of each and every client that walks through the door.

When each of your clients is worth more to you, this allows you to:

- Spend more time and money attracting new clients, and still make more money from them than your competitors can. The ability to spend more money attracting new clients gives you an unbeatable competitive advantage.

- Put more effort into serving your clients well. This can be anything from treating them once they come in, redecorating the salon and holding client appreciation events to putting more resources into training and hiring.

- Build up financial reserves that give you the security of knowing you will be able to get through lean times, or put into big renovation projects

- Ultimately expand your salon business, should you wish, taking on more stylists and opening new salons

The key to all of these is increasing client value.

So how exactly do you go about increasing your client value?

There are only 4 ways to increase your client value. You'll discover them below as well as some specific ideas to immediately start implementing into your business to increase profits, new customers, and repeat visits.

1) Increase how much each client spends with you.

This means that every client who walks through your door gives you more money.

You might be thinking "But my customers budgets are stretched more than ever!" and if you are, I hear you. We all know that people are more carefully watching their budgets. But I'm here to tell you that your customers will actually spend more, much more, in your salon if you can tap into exactly what motivates them to buy.

Without getting into all the sales psychology, which we don't have time to go through here, I'm going to show you a really quick and easy way to IMMEDIATELY increase your customer spend, starting now:

- With every hair appointment, your stylists need to explicitly offer the client the opportunity to buy the products that they are using. It's not enough to simply mention them, your stylists have to ask "would you like a bottle of x to take with you today?" You will be surprised by just how many clients will choose to buy the products if they are simply OFFERED. This can drastically increase the profit of each client that comes to you, at the same time as increasing client satisfaction.

2) The second way to increase your client value is to get them into the salon more often.

This is probably one of the easiest ways to instantly boost your business. It's no coincidence that the big salons do this religiously, while many struggling salons neglect this untapped source of profit.

The beauty (excuse the pun) of your salon is that your clients' hair keeps growing. Don't take this for granted! This is an advantage estate agents DREAM of! Ideally your clients would be back for a trim every 4-6 weeks, but in reality we all know that it'll likely be a lot longer than that. If you implement the following strategy this week, you will increase your advance bookings significantly. It takes less than 10 minutes to do, and I'm going to explain exactly what you have to do, and then show you how to do it:

Ready?

When your client is ready to leave and they go over to the front desk to settle up the bill, have your receptionist ask when they would like to book their next visit. Have them gently remind the client that you normally recommend a trim every 4-6 weeks to keep their new style looking its best, and that if your client books their next visit now, they will be given a voucher worth 10% off their appointment.

Once your client has booked their next appointment, have your receptionist hand them the reminder card with the date and time of their next appointment, and the voucher for 10% off.

You will be AMAZED at how many clients are delighted to book their next appointment there and then. It's when they are most happy with their new hair, and will be eager to make sure they can get the same stylist to do their next trim.

This strategy is just so simple, and such a sure-fire way to get your clients coming back to you again and again that it will have your stylists booked up months in advance.

Even if you did only this, your time spent today researching salon marketing will have been worth hundreds if not thousands of pounds to your salon business in the coming months.

If you like the look of these strategies and would like to boost your salon's profits even further, you can get hold of the full e-book: 23 Proven and Devastatingly Effective Free or Low Cost Salon Marketing Strategies by visiting www.yoursalonsuccess.co.uk

3) Increase the lifetime of each of your clients. In an ideal world, your clients would remain your clients for life. They'd loyally come back and would never visit another salon. The reality is, however, that it doesn't take much for many clients to cheat' on you and if they have a good experience while they're visiting your competitor's salon, they might never come back.

So why do clients cheat'? It might be a taste for the unknown, which you can satisfy in all manner of ways. It might even be something as minor as your stylist being busy on the day the client wants their hair cut, which can be avoided by encouraging them to book their next appointment straight after their previous one.

We want to lock your clients in' to your salon, by never giving them a reason to try out any other salon. You'll do this by treating them better than any other salon has ever treated them, and keeping your salon in the forefront of their minds in the time between appointments.

A simple strategy that many successful salons use to lock in' their customers is to run a simple email newsletter. This is nowhere near as complicated or time consuming as you might imagine. In fact it's something your staff will enjoy doing for you as it gives them a chance to demonstrate their expertise by talking about new styles, fashions or trends in the industry. By sending this newsletter out to your clients, you have a chance to remain at the forefront of their minds. Seeing the new styles and fashions might arouse their desire to try a new look or think about updating their style, which can itself lead to more visits.

Sending a newsletter out will also position your salon and your stylists as experts in your industry, and let your clients know that you and your team are out there in the field keeping ahead of the curve and making sure that when your clients visit your salon, you're going to be offering them the latest designs.

4) The final way to boost your customer value is a big one. It is a massively underused strategy that almost every salon in the country is guilty of not taking advantage of.

This strategy gives you the opportunity to literally multiply your customers. It can lead to exponential growth with barely any effort on your part with this strategy your customers do your promotion for you!

I am talking about implementing an effective referral strategy. A well-implemented and effective referral strategy can literally build your business for you, without you having to spend a penny on advertising, promotions or any of that. Once your referral strategy is up and running, your happy clients will be out there in the world spreading the message about your salon, while you get on with business.

Many salon owners and stylists are slightly apprehensive about asking for referrals from their clients, but once they see the results this apprehension immediately falls way, trust me!

I'll share the most effective salon referral strategy with you now. If you implement this strategy well, I'll leave it to your imagination what this could do for your business.

Once your client's appointment is over, have the stylist thank them for their custom and offer them 5 Referral Vouchers. These are folded cards which a space inside for your client's name, which your receptionist has filled in during the appointment. Have your stylist explain to your client that for every person they hand a card out to who visits the salon, they will both be entitled to 20% off their cut.

If each of your clients hands out 3 cards to their friends, and 1 of those friends come in for an appointment, you have just doubled your client base. For the price of a few pieces of card! Studies show that clients who come in as a result of a referral are also more likely to refer others. You can see how this can easily get out of hand and lead to you having to add more chairs!

As you can see, we've just touched on 4 simple strategies to boost your salon business. They are simple and easy to implement, and you can get going right away.

If you like the look of these strategies and would like to boost your salon's profits even further, you can get hold of the full e-book: 23 Proven and Devastatingly Effective Free or Low Cost Salon Marketing Strategies by visiting www.yoursalonsuccess.co.uk

Small & mid-sized European hotels can still increase their online bookings

Europe is famous for its cluster of small, mid, independent and boutique hotels; every nook and corner is inhabited with different categories of small and midsized hotels recognized for their legacy, specialization and uniqueness. In all these years, these hotels have benefitted from the growth of tourism industry and gradually with time have shifted from traditional channels and created their online presence as well. Europe has always been one of the major tourist destinations in the world and travelers from US, European and Asian countries have always contributed a major share in the inbound travel figures.

2 years ago i.e. 2008

In 2008,PhoCusWright, the travel industry research company predicted bright prospects for online travel bookings in North European countries. As per their Online Travel Overview Fourth Edition, PhoCusWright found that Europe will continue to see double-digit growth in online travel in the next 2-3 years.

Spain would experience the fastest growth in online bookings from 17% in 2007 to 26% in 2010 due to the shifting of rail & hotel segments from traditional channels to the Internet. Italy would grow by 22% in the same period as nearly half of the country's online leisure/unmanaged business travel sales are generated by low-cost carriers. France was projected to increase 16% to 7.3 billion in 2008 as online travel agencies (OTAs) were growing at an even faster pace, as both large chains and independent hotels make extensive use of this sales channel Scandinavia was predicted to "cross the chasm" by 2010, making it the second European market to generate half its bookings online (after the U.K.).

similarly PhoCusWright gave bright prospects for online travel bookings in almost all other European countries. However, in the last 2 years the picture has completely changed

The current scenario in 2010

Everything was on a growth path as predicted by PhoCusWright, until

financial crisis hit the Eurozone. First it was Iceland's ash cloud that brought the entire travel industry to a halt and then suddenly with Greece the worst financial crisis hit the European market and specially North European countries. In the last 15-20 days, stock markets across Europe have crashed, affecting markets across the world. The euro hit a 14-month low against the dollar. Earlier it was companies that were going bankrupt, now countries are turning belly up. Experts believe it is just the tip of the iceberg and some more economies would surrender soon as Eurozone countries have total government debt worth 6 trillion pounds. The EU's debt crisis could spill over into banks in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Ireland and the UK, according to Moody's. Rating agencies have downgraded the debts of Spain and Portugal in addition to that of Greece. Spain's 20% jobless rate is the highest in the developed world. Standard & Poor's lowered Spain's long-term sovereign credit rating to AA' from AA+'. There could be a further downgrade.

Its effect on online travel market and especially for midsized, independent and boutique hotels

These local hotels are severely being hit with not only the financial crisis and already glooming travel industry but also with the increasing presence of global giants especially from the US that are looking for expansion in Europe for sources of growth outside the market they already dominate. Recently, Otus & Co. reported that Four Seasons Hotels Inc., Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc. and Marriott International Inc. are stepping up their expansion efforts in Europe.

These big names with their financial might completely eclipse the presence of local players on internet the one and only medium through which small players reach out to their prospective guests across the world. Whether its search engine positioning or OTA listings or even online advertisements and social media platforms, big hotels aggressively market themselves to become visible to majority of target audience looking for an accommodation in that region. Taking into consideration the way local European giants as well as the global ones that are expanding their reach in this region, it's quite obvious that all leading portals, key words, banners, search results in engines and OTAs etc. will be enveloped and these brands would be all over on the digital space.

Additionally, around the world, international visitation fell an estimated 4.7%. Overnight visits to European destinations declined 6% in 2009, erasing two years of gains, while international travel around the world fell an estimated 4.7% against the headwinds of the global recession. The losses were more severe in Europe which shed approximately 6% in visitor volumes in Q1 2010. This marks a continuing trend of global market share losses for Western Europe, while Emerging Europe continues to gain market share. Similar is the outlook for inbound travelers from the US and other significant contributors from other European countries like Germany, France, UK, Russia etc.

(Source: European Tourism in 2010: Trends & Prospects (Q1/2010), European Travel Commission, April 2010)

Another contributing factor to this dismal performance is that travelers tended toward shorter holidays in both distance and duration. This has resulted in the plunging of room rates.

Small & Mid-Sized Hotels need to expand beyond the top global OTAs

Amidst this scenario, hotel industry across Europe is struggling hard to maintain their existence and fascinating numbers of 2008 by PhoCusWright is nothing but a mirage. In view of all these factors, it's quite evident that all these local and independent players will be experiencing significant decline in their online bookings. Big question is how these small, mid, independent and boutique hotels can survive and maintain their existence in this highly competitive and recessionary environment.

To meet any crisis, the best option is to look for the best practices from the history. There are numerous cases of companies expanding their reach to the emerging economies which the world lobby terms generally as the third world i.e. Asia. Especially from the travel industry perspective, Asia holds a lot of importance and underlying opportunity for European Hospitality Sector.

Source: European Tourism in 2010: Trends & Prospects (Q1/2010), European Travel Commission, April 2010

Every year, majority of outbound travelers from Asian countries like India, China, Korea, Japan, etc. travel to European countries for business and leisure purposes. This region has experienced one of the fastest adoption rates for online travel bookings. Now the question is from where these travelers buy their packages Mainly from their local, national or regional OTAs.

However, contacting a local travel agent is a thing of the past in Asia. These countries have seen a digital revolution in the recent times, not only the internet penetration in Asia has increased but digital arena as a whole such as mobile and social media sites have led to a dramatic increase in online travel bookings across Asia. Today online travel bookings contribute a majority share in the total bookings done from this region.

Small & mid-sized hotels need to move beyond the top global OTAs as well as their regional ones and directly reach out to the top OTAs across Asia and be available & listed on the platform from where maximum tourists book their packages. These local and specialized OTAs in Asian countries have partnership arrangements with their counterparts across Europe to provide travel and lodging packages from their region.

Some of the top regional OTAs that I would recommend small and mid-sized hotels to partner within Asia are: -

India: Makemytrip, Yatra, Travel Guru, Cleartrip.com China: Chinatravel.com, Topchinatrip.com Australia: Wotif.com, Qantasholidays.com, Checkin.com, Directflights.com, Flightcentre.com, Roamfree.com Singapore: Asiatravel.com, Holidaycity.com, Zuji South East Asia: Agoda.com, Sprice.com. Ratetogo.com, Priceline.com

Hence, the success mantra for small and midsized hotels in Europe to tackle the increasing dominance of global brands and declining online bookings is to expand their reach to Asian countries and partner with the local and specialized OTAs in this region.
